Ang: The newly elected sarpanchs of the District Anantnag Monday took oath of office here at a function organized by Rural Development Department and Panchayat Raj.
The District Development Commissioner, Mohammad Younis Malik congratulated the newly elected Sarpanchs of District.
In his address, the DDC made the Sarpanchs aware about their duties as guaranteed in the Panchayat Raj Act. He said the aim of the Panchayat Raj is to transfer power at village level so that problems faced by the villagers can be redressed at the grass root level. He also said the Sarpanchs should know about government schemes and programs so that they can deliver the benefits to people in a meaningful way.
The DDC also highlighted various rules and regulations of Panchayat Raj Acts from 1941, 1951, 1958 & 1989. He said in 1989 under Panchayat Raj Act three tyre systems was introduced on the village level, Block level & District Level which has empowered the Panchayat institutions. He also informed the Sarpanchs that 18 departments have been included under Panchayat Raj and the officers of the said departments have to consult Sarpanchs and Panchs in preparation of schemes and programs.
