GATE aspirants semand exam centres in Kashmir

Srinagar: In a long pending demand of the engineering students of Kashmir divisions, the students scheduled to appear in The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) in February outside Kashmir have sought the intervention of authorities to shift the centres for Kashmir based students.
Every year the GATE is held in the month of February and due to harsh weather conditions, many Kashmir based students either miss the exams or have to reach the examination centres many days before the scheduled test, which add to their expenses.
Scores of the candidates said that it would not be possible for those living in far-flung areas to reach to Jammu, that too in February when winter in Kashmir remains on the peak.
As the exam is a yearly based entrance, the students said that not having a centre in the valley for such important exams is “unfair and injustice”. “There should a separate centre for us too, imagine if there is snow on the same day, it will not be possible for anyone of us to reach Jammu or Delhi,” said one of the female aspirant from Srinagar.
The aspirants also appreciated the authority’s recent move of announcing a separate exam for NEET aspirants who could not travel to Jammu and Delhi due to bad weather.
Pertinently, one of the candidates from Srinagar, who is slated to appear for the exam, has shot a letter to the Divisional Commissioner of Kashmir Baseer Ahmed Khan to intervene in the matter so that the exam can be held in Kashmir province as well.
