Srinagar, Jan 05: Heavy snow across Kashmir hit normal life as traffic was off the roads and power supply was snapped due to falling of transmission lines and electric pols in both rural and urban parts of the valley. Reports said for the first time in last seven years one feet snow in plains and about three feet snow in upper reaches of Kashmir collapsed normal life forcing people to stay indoors. The traffic is not plying on snow covered roads and power is yet to be restored in any part of Kashmir valley. The water supply has also been disrupted as the water pipes are frozen and the technical staff is not out in the field to restore supply of water in the populated areas of valley.
Meanwhile, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir while talking to Kashmir News Service (KNS), said, “The men and machinery was already kept in a state of preparedness and the administration along with police worked overnight to ensure uninterrupted availability of essential services. For the first time power supply and the road connectivity was not disrupted as traffic continued on the roads and power was not snapped in any part of Kashmir valley.”
Inspector General of Police, Kashmir Zone S P Pani told Kashmir News Service (KNS) that police worked overnight along with civil administration to ensure prompt delivery of services and hassle free movement of the traffic in Srinagar and other parts of Kashmir valley.
