Srinagar: Reviving her practice of 90’s, People’s Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti on Thursday visited the family of a slain militant in Safnagri area of South Kashmir’s Shopian district. The action of Mehbooba prompted her bete noire Omar Abdullah to take a dig on her on his Twitter handler.
This was the second time when Mehbooba Mufti visited any slain militant’s family in South Kashmir. She on Sunday went to Patipora village of Pulwama to meet Rubina, who was allegedly harassed by police for being a militant’s sister.
She once again reiterated that forces should not harass families of militants.
Mehbooba Mufti while taking a dig at Governor Satya Pal Malik said that the forces have been directed to harass the families of militants. “I am hopeful that police does not want to harass anyone but it seems from somewhere it is being directed,” said Mufti.
She said that families of militants should not be harassed. “In my tenure I had directed forces not to harass brothers or sisters of militants. I hope that governor gives such directions to forces too,” she said, while visiting a family of a militant who was killed.
The family from Safanagri Shopian has another son in detention since his brother was killed in a gunfight. They had been visiting police officials for the release of their son but no response.
On Sunday, Mehbooba visited south Kashmir’s Pulwama district, where she said that she won’t allow bloodshed in south Kashmir and it won’t be made a battle ground.
The former chief minister while traveling into interiors of Pulwama said that people who supported political process do not deserve to be treated harshly.
Calling her as an ‘architect’ of ‘Operation All-out’, NC Vice President Omar Abdullah on Thursday said Mehbooba Mufti during her tenure as the state’s chief minister used militants by sanctioning their deaths to appease the BJP.
Taking to Twitter, the National Conference vice president said Mufti oversaw the operations that killed hundreds of militants since 2015 is now trying to mend her reputation by visiting militants’ families.
“The architect of “Operation All-out” & the overseer of the operations that killed hundreds of militants since 2015 is now going from one militant home to the next trying to rehabilitate a badly damaged reputation,” Omar wrote on Twitter.
He alleged that during her tenure as chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Mehbooba sanctioned killings of militants to “appease her ally and now she is using dead militants to try to appease the voters.”
“She used militants by sanctioning their deaths to appease the BJP and now she uses dead militants to try to appease the voter. Just how gullible does she think people are?” Omar said.
