Bandipora: Additional Deputy Commissioner Bandipora Zahoor Ahmad Mir on Thursday inaugurated WAKO-Kickboxing championship 2019 at Sher-e-Kashmir Stadium Bandipora.
The championship is organised by Youth Services and Sports under Khelo India in collaboration with Haider Sports Academy Bandipora. Dy SP (DR) Abdul Rasheed Khan was guest of honour, while nodal officer Khelo India, Peerzada Khursheed Ahmad Shah was also present on the occasion.
About 350 youngsters from all around the district under different age categories and weight categories are participating in the championship that will conclude on Saturday.
Speaking on the occasion, ADC Bandipora urged the youngsters to participate in sports activities for their overall development especially the girl children. He said the kickboxing is an important sports activity as it also helps a person to learn self-defence.
He said Kickboxing will help the girls to learn self-defence so that they can protect themselves and others if need arises.
Mir said the government is keen to develop the sports infrastructure in every village of the district. He said the youth of Bandipora is doing well in the field of sports and have brought laurels for the state in national and international sports events.
He said under ‘Khelo India’ launched by the central government, hundreds of sports events have been organised in the district in which thousands of children and youth have participated so far.
