Baramulla: Police Saturday said that a man from North Kashmir’s Baramulla district is evading arrest due to his involvement in a number of cheating cases. Ironically, the accused has launched a campaign on social media to vilify the reputation of a top police officer and a politician.
An official said that a man Muneer Ahmed Kataria from Salamabad Uri are of Baramulla district has duped dozens of naïve people and has minted money from them in the garb of providing jobs and subsidies to them. “This man was the member of Schedule Tribe Board. Taking advantage of his position, Muneer Ahmed Kataria received huge amount from people promising them that he will provide them jobs and subsidy for purchasing of cattle. Though the amount was deposited in his account by the complainants, but he didn’t keep his promise and embezzled the money.”
Police swung into action after a large number of people registered a complaint. “A number of FIR’s stand registered against the accused while in some cases lodged against him by police station Sopore, he managed to get bail. The accused is now evading arrest as his name figures in other cases as well.”
Police sources said that the accused in
order to defame police is filing frivolous complaints in various courts of state against the then SP and is using his wife as well for this purpose.
“Court has already ordered an enquiry which is to be conducted by DIG North Kashmir. Enquiry is going on but he is using social media to defame police,” said the official.
The official added that at least 72 people have registered complaints against him in different police stations under section 420, 506 RPC. “He has minted money in lakhs and is evading the arrest. We have set up a team to trace him,” said the official adding that an FIR vide number 6/2011 under section 420, 467, 468 RPC still stands registered against him at police station Kralkhud Srinagar.
