Advisor (K) reviews progress on Kathua Medical College

Kathua:   Advisor to Governor, K Vijay Kumar, Saturday took stock of ongoing work on Government Medical College complex and makeshift building for the GMC here at Mahatma Gandhi Hospital.

The Advisor was accompanied by Director Health Services, Jammu, Dr. Samir Matoo, Director Medical Colleges, Dr. Yash Pal Sharma and SE R&B, Jammu Kathua Circle, N D Khawaja.

At the construction site, the Advisor was briefed about the work plan of ongoing various blocks of the main building and the present status of the work.

It was said against Rs 96.39 crore fund allocation, Rs 32 crore has been spent and the building is likely to be made functional by April 2020. The total cost of the project as per the DPR is Rs. 139 crore.

The Advisor also inquired about the status of approach road including its elevation and landscaping. He directed the SE R&B to submit a bar chart depicting the works to be undertaken in the next 16 months to ensure its timely execution.

Financial progress was also reviewed and the expenditure incurred till date on the works was also discussed in detail.

Later, the Advisor, along with senior officials, visited DH Kathua and directed the hospital administration to complete all the facilities as per MCI guidelines within the next 3 months. The District Hospital is set to function as an associated hospital of the new Medical College. He further directed to resolve the issues related to CT scan and Digital X-Ray machine at the earliest.

He also sought the status of incomplete buildings near the DH and asked to explore the possibility of bringing these under the category of languishing projects.

To improve connectivity between new GMC and DH, Advisor Kumar called for submitting a proposal to NHAI so that overpass or underpass is constructed for connecting the twin facilities, without disturbing the traffic on the National Highway.

The Advisor also visited Mahatma Gandhi Hospital to review the makeshift arrangements being made by the executing agency to start Medical classes for the first batch of the upcoming GMC. A   presentation was made highlighting all the necessary arrangements and required infrastructure and facilities being put in place all to start the classes.

It was informed that for makeshift arrangements Rs. 3.66 crore have been allocated out of which Rs. 1 crore has been released and the remaining work will be completed by Feb 2019.

The Advisor asked the concerned officers to expedite all the works in a planned manner to complete the building and other infrastructure within the given timeline. He also advised for using the vacant building near the DH as Girls hostel after proper inspection.

Deputy Commissioner Kathua Rohit Khajuria, ADC Ghansham Singh, ASP Nasir Khan, CMO Dr Ashok Choudhary, Principal GMC Dr Shashi Sharma, Engineers and other concerned officers were present on the occasion.
