Srinagar: Southern district Pulwama observed a complete shutdown for the seventh consecutive day on Friday against the killings of seven civilians and three militants on last Saturday.
All shops and other commercial establishments remained closed in town while public transport also remained off the roads.
Heavy deployment of police and paramilitary CRPF were deployed at various places in Pulwama town to thwart possible protests.
Reports said that a procession was carried out by locals that were led by traders’ community shortly after the culmination of Friday congregational prayers.
Carrying placards and banners the protesters demanded an end to blood-shed.
Pertinently, on Saturday, seven civilians were killed and over 35 others injured after government forces fired at the protesters near the site of a gunfight in Sirno village of Pulwama that left three militants and a soldier dead.
