Advisor (K) discusses border dev issues with DCs, SSPs of border distts

Jammu: Advisor to Governor, K Vijay Kumar Monday chaired a meeting of the Deputy Commissioners and SSPs of the border districts of the state to discuss the issue of development of border areas.

IGP Jammu Dr S D Singh Jamwal was present in the meeting while as DC’s and SSP’s of Jammu, Samba, Kathua, Rajouri, Poonch of Jammu division and Bandipore, Baramulla, Kupwara of Kashmir division attended the meeting through video conferencing.

During the meeting, the Advisor discussed in detail the border developmental issues district wise and sought details of the works that are being carried out for the benefit of the people living there.

He sought the status of construction of community type/individual bunkers along the border in their respective districts along with details of other works that are being projected by the border people.

The DCs informed the Advisor about the number of bunkers that have been approved for their districts, other important developmental issues including better road connectivity and tele-communication services, up-gradation of health institutions, requirement of bullet proof bunkers, ambulances for safe evacuation of people during ceasefire violation incidents, construction of Border Bhawans, fast execution of developmental works and others.

K Vijay Kumar stressed on resolving the issues of border people and bringing issues in the notice of the government which needs immediate attention for their resolution. He said that all ongoing developmental works should be completed in a given time frame for which strong monitoring and supervision is required.

While discussing the border security with the district police heads, the Advisor was briefed about the present situation and the efforts that have been undertaken to ensure effective people evacuation plan during the time of emergency. They also highlighted few important issues with regard to further equipping of the Border Police Posts, providing bullet proof bunkers, establishing VDCs etc.

The Advisor asked them to maintain strong coordination with other security agencies and regularly hold meetings to review the security situation in their districts.
