Srinagar: Government Forces conducted night raids in twin area of North Kashmir’s Sopore town and arrested half a dozen youth for the alleged involvement in stone-pelting incidents.
The raids came in wake of violent protest that had erupted during funeral procession of a local militant Mehraj Ahmed who was killed along with Naveed Jatt in Chattargam.
A police official said they conducted raids in Nowpora and Armpora localities of Sopore and detained six youth. “All these youth are involved in stone-pelting and are threat to peace,” he added.
Meanwhile, family members of some youth said that their wards were picked up for participating in funeral procession which is a religious obligation. “They are not stone-pelters but students,” said a local.
