Guv congrats students for pursuing noble profession of nursing

Jammu: A Lamp Lighting and Oath Taking Ceremony of the 3rd Batch of B. Sc. Nursing students of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi College of Nursing (SMVDCoN), Kakryal, and the Annual Day function of this institution was held at the Auditorium of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University.

Governor Satya Pal Malik, Chairman of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, was the Chief Guest.

Dr. Ashok Bhan and Maj. Gen. (Retd) Shiv Kumar Sharma, Members of the Shrine Board; Prof. Sanjeev Jain, Vice Chancellor, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University; and  Umang Narula, Principal Secretary to the Governor; were present on the occasion. Earlier, on arrival at University Helipad from Jammu, the Governor was received by  B. B. Vyas, Member Shrine Board and  Simrandeep Singh, Chief Executive Officer of the Shrine Board, among others.

Speaking at the function, the Governor said this College is imparting top quality nursing education, adding that it will produce highly qualified and trained nurses who will help in strengthening the functioning of the health sector. Referring to the Lamp Lighting and Oath Taking Ceremony, the Governor observed that this is an important occasion for every nursing student particularly as it marks a commitment of the nurse to adhere to the highest professional values and standards. He congratulated the student nurses for embarking on this noble profession and wished them a prosperous future ahead.

The Governor gave mementos and prizes to the students who have excelled in academics and co-curricular activities during the past year.

In his welcome address, Maj. Gen. (Retd) Shiv Kumar Sharma, Member of the Shrine Board and Chairman of the Governing Body of the SMVDCoN, gave details of the achievements of the College in academics and extra-curricular activities during the past one year.

Earlier, all the Nursing students of 3rd Batch of the College assembled on the stage holding candles, the Faculty lit their candles and, thereafter, took Oath for rendering professional, ethical and selfless service. This ceremony initiates the students into the noble profession of nursing. Adorned in their uniforms for the first time, the students shall hereafter study and practice in actual medical care surroundings.

Dr. (Brig.) M. M. Harjai, Administrator of the Nursing College, presented a Vote of Thanks. Dr. Shailla Cannie, Principal of the SMVDCoN, administered the Oath to the students and presented the Annual Report of the College.

A classical dance performance was also given by the students of the Nursing College on this occasion which was highly appreciated by the audience.
