Srinagar/Nov, 27 : A militant was on Tuesday morning killed during a gunfight in Hafoo Reshipora area of Tral township in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district, Police said .
A statement issued by police on Tuesday said “Acordon and search operation was launched jointly by Police and security forces early morning hours on Tuesday based on a credible input about the presence of terrorists in Hafoo Reshipora area of Tral Township.As the searches were going on, the search party was fired upon by the militants . The fire was retaliated leading to a gunfight. In the ensuing encounter, one militant was killed and his body was retrieved from the site of encounter. His identity and affiliation is being ascertained’.
Claiming that Incriminating materials including arms and ammunition were recovered from the site of encounter and a case has been registered police said investigations have been initiated into the matter.
Police in its statement also asked people not to venture inside the encounter zone since such an area can prove dangerous due to stray explosive materials adding that ‘ people are requested to cooperate with police till the area is completely sanitized and cleared of all the explosives materials if any“`.
