Six Hizb militants killed in Bijbehara, mobile internet services suspended in Anantnag

Srinagar/Nov, 23 : Six Hizb ul Mujahideen militants were on Friday morning killed in a gunfight in Shalgud village of Dashnipora in Bijbehara area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

Reports said that a joint team of army’s 3RR and SOG Anantnag launched a cordon and search operation before dawn in Sekipora following inputs about the presence of militants.

As soon as the forces approached the suspected spot, the hiding militants opened fire, triggering a gunfight.

An army spokesman in Srinagar said that six militants were killed in the gunfight. “Six militants killed, weapons and warlike stores recovered. Operation in progress,” said the spokesman.

Jammu and Kashmir Police on its twitter handle wrote “Bijbehara Encounter update: 06 militants eliminated in the encounter. Arms and Ammunition recovered. Identities are being ascertained” .

The identity of the slain militants is yet to be ascertained and authorities have suspended mobile internet services in the area.
