Uri: The independents led by Najeeb Naqvi have contested the claims of senior Congress leader and former Minister Taj Mohi-ud-Din on wining 75% of the 45 wards in the first phase of panchayat elections that went to polls on November 17.
Saying that the official results are an indicator that the Congress party has been rejected by the people in Uri the independents have said that while they (independents) have won in Kamalkote, Shahdara, Kandi Barjala, Sultan Dhaki, Dachi Basgran, Dhani Syedan,Choolan Kalsan , Zamorpattan, Pehlipora A , Mohra, Machi Karand, Nambla B, Mothal-Hathlanga, Jabla, Kalgri and Navda panchayat wards, the Peoples Conference has won one, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) five and remaining by the National Conference (NC).Alleging that Congress party was also defeated in the recently held municipal elections the Najeeb Naqvi led independent s have alleged horse trading by the Congree to ensure victory of its candidate for the position of President Municipal Committee Uri. The independents have said that trend for change set by youth shows their anger against the traditional parties for their failure in addressing their core concerns on unemployment, infrastructure development adding that “ new faces will emerge on the political scene in Uri in coming months”
