Selectivity In Probes Into Political Killings

Though killing of both mainstream and separatist politicians deserve time bound probes irrespective of their affiliation to any political party, region or religion but the Jammu & Kashmir Government presently commanded and controlled by Governor Satya Pall Malik has ordered a probe into the killing of a BJP leader Anil Parihar and his brother Ajeet Parihar by National Investigative Agency (NIA) but it did not bother to announce similar probes into the killing of a National Conference Worker in Habakadal area of Srinagar city and a Tehreek-e-Hurriyat leader of Sopore area in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district during first phase of municipal polls in October this year. Though probes ordered into mysterious killings during last two decades have not been satisfying for the victim families but for the purposes of public accountability government’s can’t deny probes into killing of innocents particularly the politicians irrespective of their ideologies and affiliations to any region or religion keeping in view the security and political scenario of Jammu and Kashmir state. The decisions on probes into innocent killings can’t be taken on the basis of the victim’s affiliation to any political party, any region and any religion. Good enough an idea to conduct probe into the killing of a BJP leader Anil Parihar and his brother Ajeet Parihar in Kishtwar area of Jammu region but no probe into the killing of a National Conference Worker in Habakdal area of Srinagar city and a Tehreek-e-Hurriyat leader in Sopore area of of North Kashmir’s Baramulla district shows that Governor Satya Pal Malik’s administration is guided by the affiliations of the victim to a particular political party, region and religion in announcing the probe of any political killing.

Selectivity into probes of innocent killings on the basis of party affiliation, region and religion is unacceptable to people in any part of the country and same holds good for the people of Jammu & Kashmir.

Now when a district president of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat has been killed in Achabal area of Anantnag district in South Kashmir Monday this week the administrative ethics demands that Governor Satya Pal Malik orders probes into killing of one National Conference leader of Habakadal Srinagar and two Tehreek-e-Hurriyat leaders of Sopore and Achabal Anannag reported in last two months in Kashmir valley the way he has ordered a probe into the killing of BJP leader Anil Parihar and his brother Ajeet Parihar in Kishtwar area of Jammu region. Selectivity into probes of innocent killings on the basis of party affiliation, region and religion is unacceptable to people in any part of the country and same holds good for the people of Jammu & Kashmir.
