Secy RDD inaugurates 2-day skill dev prog at Jammu

Jammu : Himayat Mission Management Unit (HMMU), Jammu and Kashmir State Rural Livelihood Mission (JKSRLM) in collaboration with National Institute of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj (NIRD&PR), Hyderabad Monday organized a two-day workshop on “Mobilization Challenges in Himayat (DDU-GKY): Towards Strategies and Solutions” at Panchayat Bhawan, Jammu.
Himayat is Skill Development-cum-Placement program for unemployed youth especially school and college drop-out, in Jammu and Kashmir. The focus is on placements of youth in a befitting manner commensurate with the level of education and aspiration of youth.
Under the umbrella of DDU-GKY, Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India, HMMU has been entrusted with an ambitious mission of training and placing over 1.24 lac candidates from across the State for a period of 3 years.
Various Project Implementing Agencies (PIAs) have been sanctioned the projects under Himayat Program for providing training and employment to youth. The identification and selection of the candidates for the training is fundamental activity in the program. During the two-day workshop, PIAs shall be given an orientation on approaches to be adopted and processes involved in smooth identification of the deserving candidates for skill training.
Among the resource persons Gyathri Kalia, former Chief Operating officer, DDU-GKY, MoRD, GoI shall deliver the session on Mobilization strategies and approaches during the program.
The Workshop experienced gathering of over 100 representatives from various Project Implementing Agencies working within and outside state, representatives of NABCONS (Technical Support Agency for Himayat Program).
The two-day program was inaugurated Secretary Department of Rural Development and Panchayati, Raj Sheetal Nanda,
Sheetal Nanda while inaugurating the program, addressed the participants and shared the vision and mission of the government for the skill development.
Addressing the participants, the Secretary asked the PIAs to come forward and share their national responsibility of helping the youth of the State to hone their skills. She said the youth of the State are talented enough that given an opportunity they would prove their worth anywhere and in any field. “They just need a hand holding to show their talent “, she said.
Terming youth as an asset for the State, Sheetal Nanda asked the participants to deliberate how the positive energies in them could be channelized and how their aspirations could be met. This, she said, is a challenge and hoped that these initiatives would yield positive results. Further, stressed on expediting the mobilization activities so that the youth of the State shall be benefited well in time.
Chief Operating Officer, HMMU, JKSRLM, Kapil Sharma in his welcome address highlighted the progress of the Himayat and purpose of the two-day workshop.
