Handloom Dev Deptt organizes publicity cum awareness camp

Udhampur: To sensitize the Weavers/Artisans of the area about the developmental and welfare schemes run by the department for their socio economic upliftment, a one day publicity cum awareness camp was organized by Handloom Development Department here at village Kardian Chenani.
Sub Divisional Magistrate, Chenani Ashwani Kumar was the chief guest on the occasion. A large numbers of local people of the village participated in the awareness camp with great enthusiasm.
While addressing the camp, the chief guest emphasized that the weavers should come forward to avail the benefits of the schemes of the department. He stressed that the weavers should adopt new technology and develop new design by replacing the old type of pit looms to modern fly shuttle looms so that the quality of products and their earning is improved .
Assistant Director Handloom Development Department, Saidullah Khanji threw light on various social security schemes launched by the government of India for the welfare of the general public such as Pradhan Mantri Weavers Mudra schemes, Micro Credit plan scheme, Jeevan Jyoti Bima, Bunker Yojana, Education, Formation of co-operative societies and setting up of block level handloom clusters.
On the occasions, a number of artisans applied for loans on the spot and also a group of weavers were proposed to be cover under co-operative fold by registering a handloom co-operative society in the area, for which they were asked to complete formalities.
