Srinagar/Oct, 12: A complete shutdown against the killing of scholar-turned-militant commander of Hizb-ul-Mujahideen Manan Wani and his associate in a gunfight with the government forces on last Thursday hit normal life in Valley on Friday.
Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) had called for shutdown for Friday to pay homage to Wani and his aide Ashiq Hussain Zargar killed in a gunfight with forces in Shartgund village.
All shops and other business establishments are closed while public transport is off the roads in capital city Srinagar.
Authorities have suspended class work in all the schools and colleges of Srinagar district today “as a precautionary measure”. Kashmir University has also ordered suspension of class work at all its campuses.
Strict restrictions have been imposed in Lolab area and Kupwara town to prevent any protests against the killing of Wani who hailed from Tikipora village of the region.
Reports of complete shutdown were also received from other districts of the valley.
Wani was enrolled as a PhD scholar with the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) before joining Hizb ul Mujahideen militant outfit in January earlier this year.
