Jammu : A meeting to review the implementation of “Formation of Farmer Producer Organization (FPO)” project a component of Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY) with Director of Agriculture Jammu, H K Razdan in the chair.
The meeting was attended by Joint Director Agriculture (SLUB) BuleshZutshi, I/C Deputy Director Agriculture (Central) Jagmohan Bhat and Project Director Actech Information Ltd, Noida Arvind Pachauri beside other officers of the Department.
Razdan said the main purpose of the meeting is to monitor the progress under FPO as per guidelines of Government of India and discuss the bottlenecks being faced as well as future course of action. He affirmed that the Department is committed to the formation of Farmer Producer Organization and make them functional as early as possible which will aid in enhancing farmers income through market linkages of their produce. Razdan directed the stake holders to work for the immediate operationalization of Farmer Producer Groups (FPO’s) and early completion of pending infrastructural work so that the farmers and consumers are benefited by elimination of middlemen.
It was informed that 10817 farmers have been covered under FPO project which are further federated into 630 Farmer Interest Groups (FIGs) till date and 4 numbers of Farmer Producer Groups have been registered covering 6 districts of Jammu Province to boost the local specialties/ vegetable through market linkage. During the interaction Arvind Pachauri from resource institution discussed about funding and other important issues and future course of action for which Director Agriculture assured that matter will be taken up with the higher authorities and resolved soon.
