Kulgam/Oct, 4: A complete shutdown for the sixth consecutive day on Thursday over the demand for removal of an army camp recently established in Redwani village hit normal life in Qaimoh area of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district.
All the shops and business establishments remained closed and traffic was off the roads in Qaimoh, Khudwani , Redwani, Ghat, Hawoora and Mishpoora areas of the district.
The villagers said army’s 1 RR has established a camp in the village and both army and special operation group (SOG) are now camped there.
Seeking the camp’s removal from the area, the villagers said the camp was established ‘without any permission from the district administration.’
“There are at least four camps within the radius of 6 kilometers at Khudwani, Rampora, Frisal and now Redwani,” a villager said.
He said ever since the camp was established there have been frequent clashes between forces and youth.
“The forces have many times vandalized public property and beaten up inmates,” he alleged.
The locals have vowed to continue with shutdown until the camp is removed.
