Udhampur : To commemorate the celebrations of Gandhi Jayanti, a program was organized by Department of Information and Public Relations in collaboration with Social Welfare Department at Bal Ashram/ Nari Niketan of District Udhampur here Tuesday.
District Development Commissioner Udhampur Ravinder Kumar was the chief guest on the occasion.
While speaking on the occasion, the DDC highlighted the teaching and philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi who always strived hard for due place to the deprived and down trodden people. He further said Mahatma Gandhi’s teachings are most appropriate and one should inculcate his teachings in his life to develop a unique personality. He called upon the participants to follow the footprints of father of the Nation to carry out the message of peace, prosperity, communal harmony and progress.
Highlighting the life and achievements of father of nation a film show was also organized by DIPR Udhampur wherein ideology of Mahatma Gandhi was also screened on the occasion.
District Social Welfare Officer, Sana Khan briefed about various social security schemes launched by Government especially in social welfare department for the benefit of Student community. She called upon the student to come forward and avail maximum benefits of these schemes.
Students also performed cultural program and drawing activity on this occasion. Later, the chief guest distributed note books, pens & sweets among the participants.
DIO Er. Sajad Bashir Somberia thanked chief guest for sparing valuable time out of his busy schedule to grace the function.
Similarly, J&K Khadi Village and Industries Board (KVIB) Udhampur also celebrated Gandhi Jayanti in the office premises with enthusiasm and gaiety.
