Srinagar : A shopkeeper and a former militant from Tral township of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district have been booked under Public Safety Act (PSA) and shifted to a jail in Jammu.
Shopkeeper Hilal Ahmad Dhobi of Hamdania Bazar Tral and a former Hizb ul Mujahideen militant Arizoo Bashir Najar s/o Bashir Ahmad Najar of Mandoora village of Tral have been slapped with the controversial law, said an official. He said that Dhobi was detained during a nocturnal raid at his house on Sunday while Najar is under police custody following his arrest in October last year.
Dhobi’s family alleged that the police booked him under the act on flimsy grounds. Pleading innocence the family members dared the government to prove the charges against him.
When contacted, SSP Awantipora Mohammad Zahid Malik confirmed that the duo was booked under PSA. “Najar was a former militant who was under our custody and Hilal has links with militancy and was assisting Hizb outfit as an over ground worker,” he claimed.
