Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir police has announced a reward of Rs 2 lakh for providing any information about a Special Police Officer (SPO) who decamped with seven automatic weapons from the residence of a Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) on Friday in Srinagar.
Meanwhile, security forces and Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police conducted raids at several places and established nakas to capture SPO Adil Bashir, a resident of Zainpora,Shopian in south Kashmir.
A police spokesman said that an amount of Rs 2 lakh reward has been announced for providing information leading to arrest of SPO and recovery of weapons.
The incident took place two days after centre announced increase in the wages of SPOs working in the Jammu and Kashmir following reports that some SPOs have resigned after threat from militants.
Giving details about the incident spokesman said that personal security officer of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) MLA Wachi Ajaz Ahmad Mir approached Police Station Rajbagh and stated that the weapons of 7 Personal Security Officers (PSOs) who are attached with MLA Wachi are missing from his (MLA) residence at Jawahar Nagar. It was further reported that one licensed pistol Mir is also missing.
The role of SPO Adil in the commission of crime was also alleged, he said.
On this police party has reached the place of occurrence and the cognizance of the matter has been taken. In this regard FIR No 57/18 is lodged in Police Station Rajbagh & investigation taken up.
Official sources said a message was immediately flashed to all police stations and police posts across the Kashmir valley. Security forces set up nakas and also conducted raids at several places to nab the SPO.
