Cop killed in militant attack on Police Station Shopian

Srinagar/Sept,30:A police constable was Sunday morning killed in a militant attack on police station Shopian in South Kashmir

An official said the slain cop, identified as Saqib Mohiudin of Zawoora village of the district, was manning the entry gate of the police station when the attack took place around 6:30 am.

He said that Mohiudin was injured in the attack following which he was rushed to district hospital Shopian where he succumbed.The official said the attackers decamped with the rifle of the slain cop.

Meanwhile police in statement issued after the attack while confirming the killing of the constable said that militants in District Shopian today in the wee hours fired indiscriminately on Police Station Shopian. The attack was repulsed by the alert cops.

In this incident, one policeman Ct Saqib Mir also sustained injuries and was evacuated to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. However the injured cop succumbed to his injuries.

Police has registered a case and investigation has been initiated.
