After implementing National Security Advisor Ajeet Doval’s policy of anti-militancy operations for more than two years as Chief Minister the PDP President Mehbooba Mufti now after the fall of her government is saying “muscular policy” of the central government does not work well in Jammu & Kashmir and dialogue is the only way forward. Absolutely true it is that muscular policy is not the solution to continuing rise in militancy and civilian unrest in Kashmir but Mehbooba Mufti was the Chief Minister to initiate this muscular in 2016 and as such she ceases the moral right to try to be a critic of same policy which she initiated herself. Mehbooba Mufti may not recount her words but the people in Kashmir recount her words “ yeh Kya doodh laney gaye thay, yeh kya toffee laney gaye they, yeh police stations aur army camps par pathraw karnay gayay thay” means “ had they gone to buy milk, had they gone to buy toffee, they had gone to throw stones on police stations and army” and people of Kashmir did not expect Mehbooba to the anger which was brewing up against the civilian among the angered youth in Kashmir. Now this time when Mehbooba Mufti is out of power she chooses to deliver sermons to central government in responding to the killing of three police.
Had Mehbooba Mufti sought an apology for becoming part of central government’s muscular policy as Chief Minister of the state than tending to be its critic despite being known for initiating this widely condemned arm twisting policy the remarks of Mehbooba Mufti on central government’s muscular policy would go well down the throat of the gullible people in Kashmir.
Mehbooba Mufti may or may not remember but people in Kashmir recall and recount her reaction to the killing of SHO Achabal Anantnag when she was chief minister of the state. It is not Mehbooba Mufti only who does not look back at her actions as Chief Minister of the state but National Conference President Farooq Abdullah too does not miss even a single opportunity to show deviations from his own words and actions. The public anger brewing up against the mainstream leaders shows how well the people of Kashmir understand the double speak and double standards of mainstream political leaders. Unless and until mainstream leaders don’t stop selling lies and tend to stop deviating from their stated positions over core political issue the mainstream politics won’t come nearer to a full scale revival any time in short near future in Kashmir.
