Tushar Mehta’s ‘gender discrimination’ remark on Art 35-A not in line with Government brief: JK Govt

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Government on Saturday said that the argument of Tushar Mehta in which he reportedly called Article 35-A a ‘gender discrimination’ case appears to be out of the brief the governor’s administration has given to its counsels on Article 35-A.
Top officials on conditions of anonymity said “Keeping in view some media reports which quoted JK Government counsel Tushar Mehta terming Article 35-A a gender discrimination case during August 27 hearing in the supreme court it appears Mehta has spoken out of the brief J&K Government has given to its counsels for contesting the article 35-A case in the top court of the country.”
Saying that even the Governor Satya Pal Malik too has expressed his displeasure over the argument Tushar Mehta is reported to have made on article 35-A during August 27 hearing in the Supreme Court, the officials said “J&K Government’s stand on Article 35-A remains unchanged and it the same taken by previous PDP-BJP government and former governor N N Vohra.”
