Jammu : A 2-day Prosthetic-Aid Camp for Improvised Accessibility and Mobility begins here Saturday to benefit the persons with special needs.
The camp is being organized by Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities of J&K Social Welfare Department in collaboration with Director Social Welfare Jammu, Composite Regional Centre (CRC) and supported by KIWANI Club New-Delhi.
The objective of the camp is to enable the persons with disability to register themselves for getting artificial limbs free of cost and avail the benefits of several schemes for accessibility and mobility, the major challenge faced by them.
On the first day the camp registered 69 beneficiaries while 50 more are expected to enlist by tomorrow.
Earlier, interacting with the differently-abled persons, Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities Iqbal Lone called for united efforts for the overall empowerment of Persons with Disabilities which include the Civil Society Organizations (CSO). He said the challenges and concerns needs to be dealt together as a society as Disability Sector being one of the most important, evolving and challenging discipline needs collective efforts for bringing about desirable results. He said the Government is very keen for the welfare and empowerment of the disabled persons in the State.
The camp was held under the supervision of Director Social welfare Jammu Dr. Bharat Bhushan who is also the Deputy Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities.
