Srinagar: Security forces on Wednesday burst teargas shells and fired pellets to disperse the demonstrators who hit the streets immediately after troops were withdrawn from Munward, 3 km from Anantnag, where two militants of Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) including a Divisional Commander, were killed.
The authorities have already suspended mobile internet and train service in south Kashmir as a precautionary measure.
As the security forces were leaving the Munward area after eliminating two HM militants, including top commander Altaf Ahmad Dar alias Kachroo in a fierce encounter at several places in Anantnag.
Security forces resorted to lathicharge and also burst teargas shells to disperse the demonstrator, official sources said, adding it had no impact and demonstrators continued stone pelting.
Later, security forces fired pellets to restore peace in these areas, where authorities had imposed restrictions.
Several people, including security personnel, were injured, they said adding one of the injured who had received pellet wounds have been hospitalised.
A complete shutdown was imposed in Anantnag and adjoining areas. Life also remained affected in majority areas Kulgam district.
Business and other activities were hit and transport was also off the roads. However, traffic on Srinagar-Jammu national highway, also passing through south Kashmir was plying normally. Additional security forces have been deployed at some sensitive places on prevent any stone pelting on the highway.
