Srinagar: A massive fire destroyed 16 Army and four Power Development Department (PDD) wooden structures in Machil sector in the frontier district of Kupwara on Tuesday, a senior police officer said.
He said fire broke out in a wooden structure in an Army camp near the Line o control (LoC) in Machil sector this afternoon. However, before the fire tenders could reach the spot, fire spread to nearby structures. The leaping flames could be seen from a distance.
Locals, police and Army personnel joined the fire fighting operation and doused the fire after several hours.
He said 16 Army and four PDD wooden huts and other property were reduced to ashes in the incident. However, no one was injured, he added.
He said the cause of the fire was being ascertained. However, it is believed that short circuit or any blast could have caused the fire.
