Srinagar: Satya Pal Malik was on Thursday sworn-in 13th Governor of Jammu and Kashmir at Raj Bhavan lawns, overlooking the famed Dal Lake.

Malik, former Governor of Bihar, was administered oath of office by first women Chief Justice of state High Court (HC), Justice Gita Mittal. Malik 70, who arrived here yesterday in a special plane, took the oath in English.

Advisor to Governor, chief secretary and large number of leaders of mainstream political parties, senior civil, army and police officials were present on the occasion.

Malik, who was Governor of Bihar before his appointment by the President, replaced N N Vohra who completed two terms last month.

The new Governor is scheduled to chair a high level meeting later in the day to review security situation and development activities in the Jammu and Kashmir, which is under Governor rule since June 20.

The Governor rule was imposed when Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti resigned after Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) pulled out from the three year old coalition government with PDP.
