BJP’s unpopular political initiatives in Kashmir

BJP’s National General Secretary has once again generated political chaos within the PDP ranks by giving indications of his party’s attempts to cobble together a new formation for forming a new government in Jammu & Kashmir state. Saying that BJP wants to form a new government without Mehbooba Mufti led BJP shown the intents of BJP to speed up its vicious campaign for creating a vertical split in the PDP. Though split in the PDP in absence of a possibility of support to BJP by other two parties National Conference and Congress is the only option for the BJP to cobble together support of 44 MLAs in the house of 87 members in Jammu & Kashmir but inability of the dissident PDP MLAs’ to increase the intensity of dissidence in their party has almost shut the doors for formation of any new government in Jammu and Kashmir state. Holding a meeting with some of his party’s former ministers and Sajjad Lone the leader of Peoples’ Conference the only ally of BJP in Kashmir won’t prompt more PDP MLAs to join the dissident camp of seven PDP MLAs under any circumstances in the present hostile political atmosphere in Jammu & Kashmir. Keeping in view the increasing anger against BJP over its stand on article 35 A no MLA from valley would dare to even think about forming a government with BJP in Jammu and Kashmir state.

Any attempt to impose a dispensation of its own whims and wishes over the people of Jammu and Kashmir by BJP central high command would deepen the alienation of people in Kashmir beyond the levels of recovery and restoration.

Unless and until the BJP government at the centre under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi does not change its ongoing pro-active policy on Kashmir the efforts of BJP for formation of a new government won’t find any support within or outside the PDP. Carrying out an aimless exercise in presence of a hostile political atmosphere can’t change the public perception about BJP’s political narrative on Kashmir. Without changing the political narrative with measures for a drastic change in the law and order policy and the stand on article 35 A the BJP’s central high command can’t impose any regime of its own whims and wishes over the people of Jammu & Kashmir state. Any attempt to impose a dispensation of its own whims and wishes over the people of Jammu and Kashmir by BJP central high command would deepen the alienation of people in Kashmir beyond the levels of recovery and restoration. Forming a government in Jammu and Kashmir is not an issue concerning peace and security in the state but restoration of faith in the working of government and justice delivery system are the crucial and critical challenges for any government in Jammu & Kashmir.
