Srinagar: The state congress president and former minister, G A Mir on Tuesday said that no power on earth can remove Article 370 or Article 35A but he expressed dismay over the way central government tries to spread chaos by creating artificial hype on Article 35A in Jammu and Kashmir state.
Talking to Kashmir News Service (KNS), Mir said Article 35A has been invoked during Maharajas’s time and the people of Jammu and Ladakh will be more hit than the people of Kashmir by the removal of Article 35A.
He said political wisdom demands that the constitutionally elected government can never think about tinkering with Article 35A as any such attempt can prove dangerous for the integrity and stability of Jammu and Kashmir.
Mir however said that BJP can play with Article 35A in an election year just for votes as otherwise Supreme Court has dismissed petitions filed to challenge Article 35A in 60s and 70s. He said that whenever Article 35A was challenged in the SC, the successive central governments defended the validity of Article 35A and the petitions against it were dismissed times and again.
JKPCC chief said regrettably the incumbent central government doesn’t tend to defend Article 35A the way it was defended by the previous governments whenever challenged in the SC.
Reminding Home Minister Rajnath Singh of his promise on Article 35A he made four months ago, Mir said, “It is time for Home Minister to keep his promise.”
On election results in Pakistan, Mir said, “We welcome the conduct of elections in Pakistan and the telephonic talk of Prime Minister Narendra Modi with victorious PTI chairman Irman Khan on peace and development in sub continent. Issues can be solved only through dialogue and mutual trust and we hope Pakistan would reciprocate the remarks of PM on peace and development in the neighborhood of India.” (KNS)
