Srinagar/July, 31 : The body of Barzulla militant who was killed in a gunfight with the army in Kupwara forests over a month ago will be handed over to his family today , said a police official.
He said the DNA samples of Mudasir Ahmad Bhat have matched with his father. “The samples have matched and rule of law will be followed. Mudasir’s body will be handed over to his family today,” he said.
On June 29, the army claimed to have killed an unidentified militant in a brief gunfight at Trehgam in frontier district of Kupwara in north Kashmir. He was buried after postmortem at NK Gali area of Jumgund forests in Kupwara forests.
However, an unknown biker handed over a written letter to the Bhat family the same day that read: “Mudasir Ahmed Bhat alias Abu Abdullah killed in Kupwara encounter.”
The family submitted an application to deputy commissioner Kupwara, seeking exhumation and DNA sampling of the deceased.
At Kralpora police station, the father of Mudasir, Ghulam Muhammad Bhat identified his son through a photograph pasted there.
Last week, the High Court on Wednesday directed the government to inform it within a week about the DNA profiling of Ghulam Muhammad Bhat of Barzulla, who is seeking directions for exhumation of the remains of his slain son, Mudasir Ahmad Bhat.
The family members and the relatives of Mudasir have been staging protests in Barzulla for past over two weeks to demand his mortal remains.
Meanwhile, forces have been deployed in strength in and around Barzulla to prevent protests.
