Srinagar: Despite security forces being on high alert in view of militant attack that left a CRPF jawan dead and two others injured at Batamaloo, unidentified persons managed to damage three cars parked inside the Press Enclave in the heart of Srinagar city last night.
The incident, which comes hardly six weeks after the assassination of senior journalist and Rising Kashmir Editor-in-Chief Shujad Bukhari during the month of Ramazan, has induced fear and panic among journalists working or living in Press Enclave.
After the assassination, a security force vehicle was parked round the clock at the entrance of the Press Enclave.
However, the rear windshields of three vehicles, including an SUV belonging to senior journalist former BBC North India correspondent Altaf Hussain, were smashed during last night by unidentified persons.
The assailants broke the rear windshields of the vehicles. They got into the vehicles but apparently did not steal anything.
Official sources said that police arrived on the spot in the morning and has registered a case and initiated investigation into the incident.
Station House Office (SHO) Kothi Bagh, Rashid Ahmad said the flying squad of the police was supposed to be there from 2000 hrs till 0800 next morning everyday. Whether they were around when the assault happened or whether they had left is not immediately clear.
