Srinagar: Kashmir Bar Association has castigated authorities for muzzling the voice of the press in Kashmir Valley.
Kashmir Bar Association General Secretary, Advocate GN Shaheen in a statement said that journalists and media houses should be allowed to work freely in Valley and their voice should not be choked.
“Authorities should stop intimidating and suppressing journalists. Freedom of press is backbone of the already degrading democratic set up of Kashmir. Government instead of encouraging the media houses to depict ground reality is trying to suppressing them, which is very unfortunate and shameful,” Shaheen said and expressed anguish over the registration of FIR against news agency CNS.
“There is nothing wrong in circulating or propagating different ideologies in a democracy,” he said and asked government to respect the rights of journalist fraternity.
