Srinagar: A paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) man was killed and another injured after militants attacked a force party near Fire and Emergency Services department in Batamaloo area of Kashmir capital Srinagar on Tuesday.
IG CRPF Ravideep Sahi told reporters that militants fired upon the troopers and ran away from the spot. “It was a hit and run case in which one CRPF man was killed and another injured,” he said.
The deceased trooper was identified as Shankar Lal of 23 BN.
Following the attack, the forces cordoned off the area and launched a manhunt to nab the attackers.
Police has registered a case and begun an investigation, said a police spokesman, in a statement. “Initial investigation into the case has led to some tangible leads on which police is working,” he said.
Police Tuesday evening released a CCTV grab of two bike-borne suspects who they believe carried out the attack at Batamaloo in which a CRPF jawan was killed and two others injured.
“Identify the suspects involved in Tuesday’s attack at Batamaloo,” the Kashmir Zone Police said as it released the photograph on Twitter. The police sought cooperation of the people in tracking the attackers
Meanwhile Hizb-ul-Mujahideen militant outfit has claimed the attack. Hizb operational spokesman, Burhan-ud-din in a tele-statement to local news gathering agency KNS claimed the responsibility of the attack.
