Anantnag /July,25: Two militants were Wednesday morning killed in a gunfight with the government forces in South Kashmir’s Anantnag town .
A senior police official said two bodies of the militants have been recovered from the site of a gunfight in Mehmaan mohalla of Anantnag town. He said their identity is being established. “Firing has stopped. A search operation is on,” said the official.
Two Lashkar-e-Toiba militants, police said, were trapped in the gunfight that raged since early Wednesday morning. An official said that forces launched a cordon-and-search-operation in the area following inputs about the presence of militants. “As the forces approached the suspected spot, the hiding militants opened fire, triggering a gunfight,” he said. A policeman was reportedly injured in clashes with the protesters as youth took to streets in Lazibal, Kadipora and Chee area of Lal Chowk despite curbs and clashes with the forces.
Internet was shut in Anantnag district while train service was suspended across south Kashmir in view of the gunfight.An eye witness said that the forces blasted the house in which the militants were trapped.
