Officials learn about ‘New Crop Insurance Portal’

Jammu: A training program was conducted on New Crop Insurance Portal under Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojna (PMFBY) Monday here at Directorate of Agriculture.

Deputy Mission Director, PMFBY, K K Sharma, State Heads of Insurance companies (RGICL, ICICI/L & OIC), Representatives of Banks and Officers of the Agriculture Department participated in the training program.

Speaking at the inaugural session, Director Agriculture, H. K. Razdan stressed on coordination among all agencies involved in PMFBY scheme for the benefit of the farming community as the crop insurance is an important safeguard against vagaries of weather and crop failures.  Razdan asked the stakeholders to create adequate awareness about the crop insurance to ensure maximum coverage of Non-Loanee Farmers as well. He also impressed on the Insurance Companies to provide the staff at District, Sub- Divisional and Zonal level to resolve the issues being faced at different levels.

DMD, K. K. Sharma, gave a power point presentation on the different objectives and components for implementation of PMFBY Scheme. He informed that crop insurance claims to the tune of Rs 5.68 Cr rupees have been settled in favor of the farmers of Jammu Division during Kharif 2017.  Sharma also interacted with the participants, replied their queries and received feedback from them.

Master Trainer, Bharath Varma, from Government of India, conducted intensive training session and explained in detail about various issues regarding importance and usage of this new crop insurance portal. Besides a very useful interactive session was conducted with the participants in which they highlighted the problems being faced by them and the solution was provided to them by resource person.

It was apprised that different crops will be insured as per revised scale of finance for Paddy at the rate of Rs 1.00 lakh, Maize and Wheat at the rate of Rs 0.80 lakh and Mango at the rate of Rs 0.70 lakh per hectare. The cut-off date for premium deposit is 31st of July for Kharif Crops and 31st December for Mango and Rabi Crops.

District Agriculture Officers (Nodal Officers PMFBY) of all the Districts and other field functionaries of the department took part in the deliberations and interaction.
