Srinagar, Jul 21 : Suspected militants on Saturday abducted and killed a trainee police constable in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district.

Police said that the gunmen barged into the residence of Saleem Ahmad Shah, son of Abdul Gani Shah in Mutalhama village of Kulgam district on the intervening night of Friday-Saturday and abducted him.

However, on Saturday, the trainee constable was found dead in Qaimoh area of Kulgam district. They said that the body of Saleem was recovered near Ghat at Odhipora in Qaimoh.

Saleem according to the police officials was promoted as constable from Special Police Officer (SPO) in the year 2017.

On Friday, the slain trainee constable had come home on leave from Kathua where he was undergoing training.

Condemning the abduction and killing of slain trainee constable, police termed the incident as ‘cowardly act’, saying that they stand with his family at this hour of grief.

“Our colleague Salem Ahmed Shah was abducted and killed by terrorists in Kulgam. We condemn this cowardly act. We all stand by his family at this critical juncture,” Kashmir Zone Police tweeted.
