Srinagar: Police on Tuesday foiled teachers march to Governor House and arrested dozens of protesters here in Kashmir capital Srinagar.
A large number of protesting teachers led by ‘Teachers Joint Action Committee’ Abdul Qayoom wani assembled at Sher-i-Kashmir Park Srinagar to register a protest against non-implementation of 7th Pay Commission.
Police used water canon and resorted to mild lathi charge when teachers tried to march towards Governor’s House. Dozens of teachers including Abdul Qayoom Wani were detained, though they were later released.
Teachers were demanding immediate implementation of 7th pay commission and linking of their salaries with state sector. Qayoom wani and other leaders in their address to protesting teachers urged upon Governor N.N.Vohra and advisors BB Vyas, Vijay Kumar and Khurshid Ahmad Ganaie and Chief Secretary B. V. R Subramaniyum for their immediate intervention to implement the 7th pay commission for SSA teacher, head teachers and RMSA masters.
Wani said that Teachers Joint Action has decided to intensify the struggle for which an emergency meeting of general counsel shall be called on July 21 2018 to decide the future course of action.
