Jammu: At least seven persons were killed while 23 others injured when a rock slide from atop a waterfall spot in Baba Siyarh tourist destination in Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday afternoon.
“Five people died on the spot and two succumbed at Narayana Hospital Katra, taking the toll to seven,” a police official here said.
He said that it was not exactly a rock slide but a big boulder with pieces of rocks falling on the tourists bathing under the waterfall.
“Out of total injured, 15 were rushed to Government Medical College and Hospital Jammu from where they were referred to Shri Narayana Hospital where two more succumbed,” police spokesperson said.
Other injured were admitted to district hospital Reasi including the tourists from Uttar Pradesh.
One of the deceased was identified as Kamal Sharma of Talab Tillo, Jammu.
Meanwhile, locals of Reasi district slammed the state health department for not providing treatment to injured on time.
“There is only one doctor on duty in the hospital and it was not possible for him to handle the situation,” they woe and appealed to the Governor-headed government to probe the matter and initiate action against absent doctors.
Baba Siarh is a tourist spot situated along the banks of River Chenab about 75 km from Jammu.
