Srinagar: Reiterating his appeal to people, particularly youth, not to go near the areas where encounter are taking place between militants and security forces, Director General of Police (DGP) Dr S P Vaid said he is pained when a civilian get killed in the firing.
” We all are pained when a civilian get killed in the firing near encounter site”, Dr Vaid told reporters after paying tributes to martyrs of 1931 at Naqashband Sahib in the down town on Friday.
He said we have been urging people to avoid going in the area where encounter takes place between the militants and security forces as it is very risky. Dr Vaid said youths are also indulging in stone pelting on security forces who are fighting militancy in the valley. He said we are taking measures to avoid such things, including preventing people from holding demonstrations near encounter sites. We hold meeting with Army and other security agencies and discussed these things, he said. But, he said, we again appeal to people to allow security forces to do their job and avoid disrupting search operations against the militants.
About half a dozen youths were killed in security force action during Cordoned and Search Operation (CASO) against militants in the valley during the past two weeks.
