JK’s first Pahari language newspaper launched in Srinagar

Srinagar: In memory of late Dr Shujaat Bukhari, the special issue of first Pahari language newspaper of the state’ Voice of Hills’ was Thursday unveiled in a ceremony organized at the Auditorium of Department of Information and Public Relations Srinagar.

The event was attended by Vice-Chairman J&K Academy of Art, Culture & Languages, Zaffar Iqbal Manhas, Secretary Information Sarmad Hafeez, prominent journalist and writer Mohammad Sayeed Malik, Raja Nazar Bonyari, besides other writers of Pahari language.

Zaffar Iqbal Manhas, in his presidential speech, while deliberating on Pahari language complimented the editorial team of the newspaper on the special issue published in the memory of late Shujaat Bukhari, who he said, was an epitome of journalism. He complimented Zubair Qureshi, the editor of the newspaper for his sincere efforts in publishing this special issue and hoped that the editorial team would continue to make this newspaper an epitome of excellence. He announced a cash reward of Rs 20,000 to Zubair Qureshi for his sincere efforts in publishing the newspaper.

The Chief Guest Mohammad Sayeed Malik said late Shujaat Bukhari died a death of a martyr by being an upright and immensely ethical journalist, who always voiced his concerns on issues concerning people. He said, though Shujaat is no more with us, but his work will continue to be a torch bearer for younger journalists.

Secretary Information, Sarmad Hafeez while congratulating Pahari community for this feat said it will provide a platform for young writers of the community to highlight their issues and promote their culture and language.

The Patron of Voice of Hills Hamid Abdur Rauf Qureshi thanked the audience for their love and support and vowed to carry forward the mission with zeal and zest. Editor in Chief Zubair Qureshi also thanked the audience for attending the event and providing their feedback.

Earlier, in his inaugural speech, Raja Nazar Bonyari gave an overview about the newspaper and its content.

The website of this first Pahari language newspaper was also inaugurated on the occasion.

The event was attended by prominent writers and journalists of the valley, especially Pahari community.
