Advisor (V) for time-bound implementation of SBM

Srinagar: Advisor to Governor  B B Vyas Thursday directed the officers to ensure the time bound implementation of flagship Swach Bharat Program (SBM) so that people of the state get benefitted by these initiatives.

The Advisor was reviewing the status of the SBM with Deputy Commissioners through video-conferencing.

He asked the Deputy Commissioners to setup teams of officers in their districts for verification of the assets created under SBM and report any lapses and wrongdoings for action.

The Advisor directed the officers to take up a survey of schools without toilets and get the toilets particularly for girl students constructed within shortest possible time in every school.

To ensure better transparency in the asset creation under SBM, the Advisor asked the Deputy Commissioners to ensure geo-tagging of all the assets. He also directed the officers to ensure maintenance of assets and go for periodical reviews to check their functional status besides MIS should also be updated regularly.

The Deputy Commissioners informed the meeting about the status of SBM in their respective jurisdictions and said 90% of the work has already been completed and the remaining will be completed within the stipulated time.

Vyas directed the DCs to ensure that timeline fixed for their respective districts are adhered to and called upon the districts lagging behind to make a determined push for it.

He also stressed on greater coordination and synergy between various departments including the Rural Development Department, PHE and other concerned departments and asked the DCs to ensure regular monitoring of the implementation progress.

He also called for conducting mass awareness programs on sanitation, utilizing the services of radio, Doordarshan and other print and electronic media channels.

The Advisor also directed for coming up with a comprehensive proposal for undertaking solid waste management waste program and also ensuring its success. He said this would go a long way in helping to keep the environs of our village and rural areas clean besides also contributing to clean ecology.

Secretary Rural Development Sheetal Nanda, Director Rural Sanitation Indu Kanwal and other officers were present in the meeting.
