Srinagar : Controller, Legal Metrology Department, R.K. Katoch, Tuesday chaired a meeting to review the functioning of the department besides its achievements, targets of revenue and composition in the Kashmir Division.
The concerned officers apprised the Controller about the performance of the Department in the Kashmir Division. It was given out that, Rs 26,79,708 have been realized in the 1st quarter of 2018-19 which includes Rs 1568208 as verification fee from Weighing and Measuring Instruments/licensing fee and Rs 11,11,500 as the composition from defaulter traders.
A total of 1110 cases have been registered, so far, in the first quarter while as a total of 1105 cases stand compounded by field functionaries. During the meeting, the Controller was apprised that 6600 regular as well as on spot inspections have been carried out by the Department in Kashmir Division in safeguarding the interests of the consumers against malpractices adopted by unscrupulous traders.
On the occasion, Controller directed the Assistant Controllers (ACs) to redouble their efforts to implement all the provisions of Legal Metrology laws as well as provisions of J&K Consumer Protection Act in letter and spirit to protect the rights of consumers.
He further stressed upon the officers to organize consumer awareness programs, particularly in schools so that the people can be made aware of their rights and duties as consumers.
