Rajouri: Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Rajouri Wednesday provided dual purpose poultry chicks to a group of tribal farm women for developing backyard poultry units.
More than 1400 chicks with 30 birds for each backyard poultry unit were provided to the beneficiaries at a training program attended by 50 farm women from the remote Panchayat, Salyote Dalhori.
Earlier, training started with the introductory lecture by Dr. Suraj Parkash, SMS (Agriculture Extension) wherein the farmers were informed about various activities and schemes being implemented by KVK for the uplift of Tribal of the district. He informed the gathering that KVK is executing a lot of activities in Rajouri to ensure the livelihood opportunities of farmers.
Dr. Parul Gupta, SMS (Animal Sciences) gave a detailed deliberation on scientific rearing of backyard poultry and assured the farmers that KVK would extend all possible technical help to them in promoting this venture. She emphasized that this venture will enable the tribal women in earning a handsome income by the sale of eggs as well as birds for meat purpose and add in nutrition to the daily diet of Farm women and their children. Farmers of the area discussed various problems being faced by them in rearing Backyard Poultry and on spot redress of the problems was done.
Dr D.P Singh, Chief Animal Husbandry Officer, Rajouri was also present at the program organized at Government Poultry Farm, Rajouri.
