Srinagar: An elderly Bakerwal was killed and four others were injured when their tent was buried under a huge landslide in south Kashmir district of Anantnag district Saturday night, a police spokesman said on Sunday.
He said tents of Bakerwal families came under a huge landslide at Thimdan Behak on a foothill in Utterso in Anantnag district. However, a police team led by Station House Officer (SHO) Utterso immediately rushed to the spot and launched the rescue operation.
Five injured persons were immediately rushed to Sub District Hospital, Shangus where a 60-year-old Mohammad Shafi Paswal was declared brought dead. The injured a woman Nzaira Begum (38), wife of Nazir Ahmad Paswal, her son Khalid Ahmad Pawal (12), daughter Nazia Akhtar (3) and Phoola Begum (55) wife of Late Doda Paswal.
A police spokesman in a tweet this morning said “ Landslide hit Nomads tents in upper reaches of Themidaan Dhok. Rescue operation launched by Police team headed by SHO Utrasoo, dead body retrieved and injured shifted.
A number of tents were also damaged and six sheep also died due to landslides, police said adding the Bakerwals, residents of Reasi district of Jammu region, are putting up in these tents during summers.
