Srinagar/June,25: Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chief Yasin Malik was arrested and Mirwaiz Molvi Umar Farooq house detained Monday morning amid call for shutdown against killings in Kulgam district of South Kashmir last Sunday.
A spokesman of Jammu & Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) said that Malik was arrested from his Maisuma residence early Monday morning and lodged at Kothibagh police station.
Soon after the arrest Yaseen Malik the JKLF Chairman a spokesman of Hurriyat Conference (M) said that Mirwaiz Molvi Umar Farooq has been placed under house arrest. He said a police party reached at the Nigeen residence of the leader and placed him under detention. The Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Yasin Malik had called for a protest shutdown on Monday against the killings in Kulgam on lasy Sunday and continuous civilian killings in the valley.
Meanwhile, Mirwaiz has congratulated the Turkey president Erdogan for winning the presidential election. “Congratulations to Turkey’s President @RT_Erdogan, an ardent supporter of Kashmiris right to self-determination on winning the Presidential elections. Our prayers and best wishes are with the people of Turkey,” he tweeted.
