Srinagar: Property worth crores of rupees has been damaged in a devastating fire incident in the down town Sriangar in the wee hours of Sunday, official sources said.
A fireman and two civilians, including a woman were injured during the fire-fighting operation, they said.
Source said fire broke out in a house at Pandan in the down town city in the wee hours. However, fire spread to nearby houses before the fire tenders could control the leaping flames, clearly visible in the entire town.
We have rushed about 20 fire tenders from different parts of the city, including Fire and Emergency headquarter Batmaloo, sources said.
The flames were brought under control after struggling for several hours, they said adding it was still smoldering. They said nine houses and other household property were reduced to ashes while another house was partially affected.
A fireman identified as Naseer Ahmad besides two civilians Tamim Ahmad and Salma Begun were also received during the fire fighting operation.
The cause of fire was being ascertained, they said.
