Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has expressed her shock and sadness at the brutal killing of RisingKashmir editor Shujahat Bukari and Press Club, Kolkata, in a condolence message protested brazen attack on the media fraternity in Kashmir.” Saddened and shocked at the brutal killing of respected editor and senior journalist @bukharishujaat,” Ms Banerjee, wrote in her facebook account. “With a few hours to go for Eid this is terrible. No words are enough for this big tragedy,” she added.Press Club, Kolkata, also joined the media fraternity in protesting against the brutal killing of the renowned journalist and Editor of’Rising Kashmir’ Shujahat Bukhari in Srinagar on Thursday evening.The veteran journo was shot dead by unidentified gunmen outside his office in Press Enclave area at Lal Chawk in Srinagar. He was fired upon while he was disembarking from his car.In a joint statement by Press Club president Snehashis Sur and secretary Kingshuk Pramanik said Mr Bukhari, apart from being theeditor of ‘Rising Kashmir’, was a veteran journalist and contributed to various newspapers and magazines across the country. They said Mr Bukhari’s independent views were highly visible in social media also.
He was respected as a courageous journalist propagating his independent views from the disturbed areas of the valley, thestatement added.Press Club, Kolkata, demanded that his killers should be booked in no time.
